A Few Notes
Will I need a car?
YES.
If you’re flying in, the answer is yes. Missoula has some great public transportation (the Mountain Line Bus is free in town!) but has very few Ubers or Lyfts running. Butler Creek Lodge is about 15 minutes out of town and a rideshare will cost you $100 easily after the reception concludes. Renting a car or carpooling (and having a designated driver) will make your life easier.
What is there to do in and around Missoula?
Oh buddy, a whole darn lot!
There’s a reason we love living here! Hiking trails are abundant around the city, from Waterworks on the North Side of town to the Rattlesnake Wilderness, Mount Sentinel, and Pattee Canyon. A quick jaunt down the Bitterroot Valley will provide incredible views of big, wild granite peaks and valleys. There is considerable brewery culture, mountain biking terrain, some of the best fly fishing in the world, rafting opportunities, and Glacier and Yellowstone National Parks are a half-day drive away (but will require reservations for this time of year to even get in the parks). The National Bison Range is a special place and is only 45 minutes from Missoula. There’s a ton to do and see, and we hope you take some time to see Montana while you are here!
Here are some of our favorite local spots:
The Union Club - easily the best dive(ish) bar in town, with free live music and dancing every weekend night. A great place to see both old cowboys and Zoomers getting their boogie on.
The Camino - bougie Mexican restaurant with good Oaxacan cuisine and even better cocktails.
Worden’s - deli and wine market all in one (and Thomas’s wine shop of choice). They make a mean Cubano and Reuben sandwich.
Shakespeare Bookstore - located on the Hip Strip and one of the best little bookstores not on the West Coast.
The Sports Exchange - Thomas’s favorite used gear store. Zach and Mini are knowledgeable and if you need some gear to have more fun while you’re here, this is the place to get it.
